The story of Shadow, the descendant of a horse killed during a catastrophic rescue operation, is depicted in a comic book drawn by Kai's mother. The book is also about her, her partner Erik, and about Kai’s birth. But following a terrible argument, Kai witnesses his mother’s accidental death, an event that for years fills him with remorse.
