THE LIVES OF THE SAINTS

by Chris Cottam, Rankin

synopsis

In North London, a shady dealer lives an undisturbed existence. But the arrival of a ten-year old boy changes all that. The boy is apparently gifted with unnatural powers. Little miracles start to happen and the boy, whether he just brings luck – or is an agent sent by God – turns life in the neighborhood upside down. The jealousy of those who are unable to take advantage of his powers turns ugly and violent. Worse, a kind of malaise spreads that spoils longstanding loves and friendships, bringing madness and death. Moving from violence to extreme tenderness, the film takes the form of a traditional narrative and adapts it into a contemporary fable.
