Puglia's new Film Fund, which is scheduled to run from 2018 to 2020, has doubled its offering and will now have a budget of €10 million up for grabs for the first time ever. A renewed and robust financial fund, contributing to an increasingly strategic sector for the region of Puglia in support of the local cinema and audiovisual industry, which is now able to attract an increased number of national and, more importantly, international productions. "Apulia Film Fund represents a truly unprecedented yardstick in terms of film funds," states the director of Apulia Film Commission, Antonio Parente, "in terms of the quality of the measures identified within the scope of the European funding regulations, the amount of resources available – €10 million – and the reduction of bureaucratic waiting times."

All audiovisual fiction, documentary, short-film, animation and format projects are eligible for the fund, with a minimum project work threshold in Puglia of 6 days (with the exception of format and short film categories, which have a threshold of 2 days), with at least 60% of the project’s budget reimbursed for those days (i.e. 40% for documentaries and 20% for short films).

There is also a cash rebate of 75% up for grabs for workers enrolled in the Apulia Film Commission Production Guide, even if projects are created outside of Puglia. If suppliers are registered in Puglia for tax purposes, they are eligible to have some expenses reimbursed: 70% for short films, 50% for documentaries and animated films and 30% for fiction and format films. Finally, international co-productions will be awarded with 5 points, out of a total of 60 needed to access funding. The maximum contribution allocated to one individual project is €1 million for fiction films, €250,000 for animated films, €100,000 for documentaries and format films and €40,000 for short films.
