The seventh edition of the European series summit Série Series will take place in Fontainebleau, just outside of Paris, from 26-28 June. Over the years, it has established itself as a creative hub with European diversity running through its DNA, state the organisers, who also point out that this non-competitive event is designed to be complementary to the larger Séries Mania and the newly created Cannes Series. The idea is to place creation and creators “at the heart of all discussions” and to provide its participants (50% of whom came from other European countries last year) with “unique networking opportunities in a relaxed atmosphere conducive to thought” and professionals-only discussions and activities, including, amongst others, the SACD debate on how to compete against internet native giants by supporting collaboration between Europe’s traditional players (writers, public broadcasters and so on), a conference focused on the BBC model, master classes (by writer-producer Chris Lang, known for Innocent, Unforgotten and The State, and by writer-director-producer Peter Kosminksy, the brains behind The State, The Promise and Britz), plus the now well-established Broadcasters' Conclave.

As Série Series' primary focus is a highly effervescent sector, the constant transformation of which it intends to adapt to and accompany year after year, the keyword for this seventh edition is “audiences”, plural. Indeed, series are now so numerous and diverse that each one speaks to a different set of viewers.

In three days, 36 new series from 15 European countries will be presented by their teams, starting with the BBC title A Very English Scandal, chosen to open the gathering, which will be screened in the presence of director Stephen Frears. The selection of already released series, which will be followed by case studies, also includes Ouvert la Nuit (France), Conspiracy of Silence (Sweden), State of Happiness (Norway), Father's Day (Bulgaria), Innocent (UK), Liberty (Denmark), Matadero (Spain) and Patrick Melrose (UK).

The In the Pipeline section presents titles currently in production. Accredited professionals will be able to discover exclusive excerpts of Over Water (Belgium), The Days the Flowers Bloom (Sweden) and Invisible Heroes (Finland/Chile), amongst others. What's Next?, dedicated to projects still in development, includes titles from all over Europe, and this year, Série Series is showing the finished product of former In the Pipeline and What's Next? selections in a new section entitled Follow-up, which includes Sirene (Italy), Quartier des banques (Switzerland/Belgium), Fenix (Netherlands), Champion (Belgium), Stella Blomkvist (Iceland), Back to Corsica (France), Aux animaux la guerre (France), Home Ground (Norway) and Clash of Futures (Germany/France/Luxembourg/Belgium).

Another novelty this year (after the format was tested out last year) is the creation of a festival within the festival: Série Series Kids. Finally, for the fourth time, Série Series is repeating its two-minute trailer competition (which will lead to the financing of 50% of the budget for the winner’s pilot episode).
