Aida Begić

Born in Sarajevo, Aida Begic grew up during the War in Yugoslavia. Her films talk about life after massacres in Bosnia. She graduated at the Sarajevo Academy of Performing Arts, direction department. Her senior film project, First Death Experience is presented at the Cinefondation official selection at the Cannes Film Festival in 2001 and won numerous prizes all around the world. In 2003, she directed her second short North Went Mad. She then taught direction at Sarajevo Academy of Performing Arts and achieved numerous adverts and video clips. In 2004, she created Mamafilm production company with Elma Tataragic, her co-writer. Her first feature film, Snow, won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Semaine de la critique in 2008. In 2009, she created Filmhouse production company with her husband. In 2012, she received the special mention of the Jury in Un Certain Regard category at the Cannes Film Festival for her movie, Children of Sarajevo. (Source Djeca)
