Cineuropa: What made you want to become an actress? What have been the most significant moments of your young career?
Orsi Tóth: I enrolled out of curiosity at the Theatre and Film Arts College in Budapest, just after high school. And I decided to continue… As for my career, the Cannes Festival has undoubtedly been the most important event so far. But that includes everything that came before the festival and the work necessary to get there.

You’ve worked on several occasions with Kornél Mundruczó. What binds you to this director and how did your collaboration begin?
I met him nine years ago, at the casting for his film Pleasant Days, for which I’d been pre-selected from photographs. After a few screen tests, I was chosen for the role and since then I’ve worked regularly with Kornél. I think the reason we’re on the same wavelength is because we don’t interfere in each other’s work. We don’t try to realise ourselves through the other and we leave each other free to work in our own way. And we’ve trusted each other completely from the start.

What is your acting style? How do you prepare your roles?
I don’t think you can prepare for anything, except perhaps a little from a physical and mental point of view. The rest is the usual story: you have to give 100% of yourself.

What are your projects for 2009?
I’m going to appear in Dutch director Ricky Rijneke’s debut feature. The film is entitled The Silent Ones and the plot unfolds in a dreamlike, suggestive and tense atmosphere.

How do you feel about being selected as a Shooting Star?
We’ll see how it goes in Berlin. For the moment, I’m very happy and I’m looking forward to the event.
