30/04/2008 - What is your background and how did you become a producer?
Oana Giurgiu: I’m a journalist and I have worked as a television reporter since i was a student. Then I become a TV producer and also started producing TV commercials and music videos. One day I was asked to join a film crew as location manager. I did it because I wanted a professional change and thought film would be fun. The film was The Death of Mister Lazarescu [trailer] and it was a beautiful start, as here I am digging deeper into the film business.
What is your company’s production philosophy?
We want to produce interesting films, which appeal to the public and have international potential.
How do you choose projects? What qualities must a project have to catch your attention?
A good story and a talented director will always catch my attention. But I would go for it only if I picture myself working with a nice person. I trust my instincts and I love people that have something to say and who believe in their work.
Do you have international perspectives involving co-producing with other European countries?
Yes, there are projects in which we are planning to involve European co-producers, as well as projects that will remain only Romanian productions.
With which countries do you co-produce the most?
France and Germany.
How do you feel about being selected as a Producer on the Move 2008?
I’m honored, I’m looking forward to making new friends with whom to exchange good as well as bad production experiences.
