First of all I would like to say that we have to dream, cause if we don’t dream nothing becomes real. I also think that god - if he exists - before creating the world, he dreamt it. A film is a dream that becomes a reality. Once, when I was tucking in my son, I had a book of short stories, and it had the Andersen tale - The emperor’s new clothes - I said to myself, I will read the story to him and make him dream, but once he fell asleep I said to my self: ‘this tale makes me dream because its not only a children’s tale, it’s also a tale for adults, not only a European story but also a story for Africans.’
I thought to myself: ‘but we don’t have a star system in Africa. We don’t have big movie stars that make it possible for films to be made, but we have big music stars that are well recognized in all of Africa and others in the all world, people like Papa Wemba.
So I thought, I will exploit all this, I will make a Musical film and hence the idea of this film came about.
