After kicking off in Israel, then relocating to Norway, the shoot for Jerzy Skolimowski’s new film, The Essence of Killing, is currently taking place in Poland. The feature looks set to be a blend of artistic cinema and classic action thriller.

US actor Vincent Gallo stars as a Taliban member who is captured after killing three US soldiers. Transferred from Afghanistan to Europe to undergo a series of interrogations, he manages to escape and commits other crimes.

The rest of the cast has not yet been revealed, but the producer has hinted that it will include French actress Emmanuelle Seigner.

Like Four Nights with Anna, The Essence of Killing is co-written by Skolimowski and Ewa Piaskowska and lensed by DoP Adam Sikora (the usual collaborator of Lech Majewski, with whom he worked on Angelus, and Wojaczek, and will soon lense The Mill and the Cross).

Produced by Skopia Film, The Essence of Killing has backing from the Polish Film Institute (PISF), Eurimages, the Irish Film Board, the Norwegian Film Institute and the Motion Picture Public Foundation of Hungary (MMKA).

Co-producers include Canal +, Cylinder Productions, Iliade Films and Mythberg Films. Shooting will wrap at the end of February.
