D’Schatzritter gets ready to shoot

Though Luxembourg co-produces many films, fiction feature projects aimed at the local market are still few and far between. Young producer Bernard Michaux of Lucil Film will produce his first Luxembourg film this summer: The Treasure Knights and the Secret of Melusina.

The film, locally called D’Schatzritter an d’Geheimnis vum Melusina will be a Luxembourg-language children’s film. The treatment was written by Michaux himself, while the screenplay was penned by Czech-born, Germany-based Martin Dolejs (Stella und der Stern des Orients) and German screenwriter Stefan Schaller (Hände weg von Mississipi).

The film tells the story of four children led by Jeff, who believe in the treasure of Melusina, a mermaid, and set out to look for it with the help of a mysterious girl, Melanie.

The film will be directed by Luxembourg director Laura Schroeder, who will be making her feature debut after a series of acclaimed shorts. Shooting will start on July 12.

Over 700 Luxembourg children auditioned for the leads before four unknowns were finally picked. The role of Melusina has gone to German actress Alexandra Neldel (Verliebt in Berlin). Luxembourg actor Luc Feit (Perl oder Pica [+see also:

“In the year of the fifth anniversary of Lucil Film, it was time to make a film for the national market,” Michaux told Cineuropa. “This project is the attempt to both establish the company on the international market and hit the national market at the same time. Even if the company will not necessarily specialise in family entertainment, this film will be, after having co-produced Ian Power’sThe Runway [+see also:

, the perfect project to stabilise the structure of the company.”

The project is backed by the Luxembourg Film Fund, the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Saarland Medien and the MEDIA Programme.
