On July 12, shooting will start on Hungarian director Benedek Fliegauf’s fifth feature: Just The Wind.

(in competition at Locarno in 2010), the director (36) is this time trying his hand at a rural thriller set against a backdrop of racism. Co-produced by Germany and featuring non-professional actors, the film centres on a gypsy family from the Great Plains, who are used to being stalked by killers.

Scripted by Fliegauf, the film revolves around four members of a gypsy family who live on an isolated farm in Hungary: Anna, a young teenager who goes to school; her 11-year-old brother Rio who has created a hiding place in an abandoned barn; their mother Mari who works as a cleaner in the neighbouring village; and their grandfather Tomi who has been weakened by a stroke.

It’s summer. Over the past few months, a gang of "hunters" has been committing racist crimes, attacking gypsy families, burning their homes and killing the inhabitants, where the gypsies are nicknamed "the crows". Anna, Rio and Mari will have a brush with unseen danger, until the day the hunters arrive.

Produced by András Muhi and Monika Mécs for Inforg-M&M Film, Just The Wind has received co-production supports from Germany’s The Post Republic (Rebekka Garrido) and France's Paprika Films, and backing from Eurimages and the MDM (Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung).

Shooting is scheduled to last five weeks from July 12 to August 15 in the Hungarian countryside, while post-production will be carried out in Germany and Hungary. International sales are expected to be handled by The Match Factory.
