Weingartner goes against the flow
After The Edukators (2004), a tale of three young rebels that won him several awards, Austrian director Hans Weingartner returns behind the camera for Free Rainer, which has kicked off shooting, according to the Austrian Press Agency (APA).

The film's main character, played by Moritz Bleibtreu, is a successful producer more or less corrupted by television, who is threatened to change completely when he is made the radical advocate of a cultural counter-revolution.

For Free Rainer, produced by German outfit Kahuuna Filmproduktion, Weingartner reunites some of The Edukators cast, as well as the film's co-scriptwriter Katharina Held and its Austrian co-production company, Coop 99. He is also again working with the DoP Christine A. Maier (Nordrand by Barbara Albert and Jasmila Zbanic’s recent Esma’s Secret [trailer, film focus]).

The chosen locations are Berlin, Vienna and Brandenburg. Free Rainer is expected to be released next year.
