Kto nigdy nie żył... (lit. "Who Has Never Lived..."), the debut feature by Polish actor Andrzej Seweryn (from the Comédie Française), today opens the competition of the 31st Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

The selection includes the new works of acclaimed directors, such as Filip Bajon (Wizja lokalna, 1980 Golden Lion; Wahadełko, 1981 Golden Lion), Jan Jakub Kolski (Historia kina w Popielawach, 1998 Golden Lion), Michał Rosa (Cisza, Best Director in Gdynia in 2001), Marek Koterski (Dzień świra, 2002 Golden Lion) and Krzysztof Krauze (Dług, 1999 Golden Lion).

These established directors will be presented alongside a host of debut filmmakers, including Sławomir Fabicki, Adam Guziński, Robert Krzempek, Grzegorz Lewandowski, Xawery Żuławski, and Andrzej Seweryn.

As per tradition, the Gdynia festival gives "off cinema" the opportunity to present its latest productions. The 20 titles in competition in this section include several famous names, such as Mariusz Pujszo, Dominik Matwiejczyk, and Bodo Kox. All films not selected in competition will be presented within the Polish film Panorama.

The festival is not lacking in parallel events for its 31st edition, such as a scriptwriting workshop and a conference on the introduction of local films on the international market, organised by the Media Desk Polska. Furthermore, the 40th anniversary of one of the festival’s main organizers – Stowarzyszenie Filmowców Polskich (Association of Polish Filmmakers) — ensures the presence of a great many guests representing all fields of Polish cinema.
