The 48th Zlin International Film Festival for Children and Youth announced the competition winners of its 48th edition on June 7, with Golden Slipper awards going to The Substitute [trailer], Where's Winky's Horse and The Bear Stories.

Danish director Ole Bornedal’s The Substitute was named Best Feature Film for Youth, and received the Don Quixote Award of the International FICC jury as well as the International Ecumenical Jury Award.
Where Is Winky's Horse?, a Dutch/Belgian co-production directed by Mischa Kamp, received the Golden Slipper for Best Feature Film for Children and a commendation of the international ecumenical jury.

The international expert jury led by US director Randal Kleiser named Marina Karpova’s The Bear Stories (Russia) the Best Animated film in the main competition.

Among other prize-winners, Hitoshi Kurauchi’s Gabai Granny (Japan) received the main prize of the children's jury for Best Feature Film for Children and a special award from the City of Zlin.

St Trinian's (UK), directed by Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson, received the main prize of the Children's jury for Best Feature Film for Youth. In the Zlin Dog competition of student films, the top award went to I Am Bigger and Better by Czech director Martin Duda.

British actress Dakota Blue Richards attended the festival in support of The Golden Compass and while US actor Daniel Clark was in Zlin with the Oscar-winning film Juno.

This year’s Zlin Film Festival saw more than 71,000 admissions in Zlin and in satellite towns taking part in the festival.
