The Unburied Man in competition at Karlovy Vary

by

A flashback of Hungarian political history during the 40th Karlovy Vary Film Festival which runs from the 1st to the 9th of July. Among the 14 feature films in line for the Crystal Globe is The Unburied Man(A temetetlen halott), directed by the experienced Márta Mészáros, a film retracing the destiny of Imre Nagy, the heroic prime Minister of the 1956 revolution and martyr to the democratic cause when he was executed as the Soviet troops regained control. Using the diary left by the politician, the memoirs of his daughter and many historical documents, The Unburied Man has already been rewarded with a best actor prize for b>György Cserhalmi at the recent Hungarian Film Week.
Produced by Hungarian company CameoFilm with Arsmedia (Slovakia) and Akson Studio (Poland), and with Telewizja Polska and Agencja Filmowa as co-producers, the film had a budget of 1,5 million euros. Sold internationally by Mokép-Hungarofilm, it was released in Hungary on the 21st October 2004 by Budapest Films.
