18/01/2013 - Dutch director Nanouk Leopold’s latest, It’s All So Quiet, will open the Panorama Special section of the upcoming Berlinale.

Her previous two films, Brownian Movement [+see also:

film profile] and Wolfsbergen also had premieres at the festival, though Movement had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before its European bow at the Berlinale.

It’s All So Quiet is an adaptation of a bestselling and critically acclaimed novel by Gerbrand Bakker, translated into English as The Twin.

It tells the story of a farmer, Helmer (Jeroen Willems), who realizes that his life has been influenced to an unhealthy extent by his aging father (Henri Garcin).

Much of Leopold’s regular crew worked on the feature, including director of photography Frank van den Eeden, production designer Elsje de Bruijn and editor Katharina Wartena. Composer Paul M. van Brugge is a newcomer to Leopold’s crew.

The film was produced by Stienette Bosklopper and Els Vandevorst for Two Donkeys, a company jointly set up by Circe Films and N279 Entertainment. Broadcaster VPRO and German outfit COIN Film coproduced. International sales are handled by Films Distribution.

Cinéart will release the film domestically at the end of April.

The Berlinale runs February 7-17.
