The director, who has many television successes to his name, is returning to the big screen where he was last seen in 2005 with Mai + come prima starring Laura Chiatti. This time, the director tells the story of Leo, going through a delicate phase of transition from childhood to adulthood. Leo is played by rising star Filippo Scicchitano (Scialla! [+see also:

film profile] - photo), who confirms his talent playing a boisterous and rebellious sixteen year-old madly in love with a beautiful redhead called Beatrice (played by French Gaia Weiss), for whom he would do anything.

Leo’s unconditional love is the motor for a story that quickly goes from being a light generational movie to a drama. Beatrice has leukaemia and only has a short time to live. Leo declares his love just in time, and will do everything to save her, with dear friend Silvia (Aurora Ruffino), a special and illuminating teacher (Luca Argentero) and his parents (Flavio Insinna e Cecilia Dazzi) by his side. The latter, baffled by their son’s developments, give the film its most hilarious moments.

Campiotti makes a good film for young people, including popular teen songs by Modà, and using contemporary language (Fabio Bonifacci is behind the screenplay with D'Avenia), with colourful, light editing. “Spaces and places from the city where the story takes place (Turin) were not realistic, but coloured and transfigured through an emotional filter according to the moment Leo is living,” the director explained.

Laughter and tears, pain and joy, football and Dante Alighieri: the chaotic universe of Leo, finding a balance with life, moves in between opposites, his messed up hair, and loud music. His dreams, tinted in red, should conquer the youngest of spectators, giving an older audience a few moments of tenderness.

Bianca come il latte, rossa come il sangue was produced by Lux Vide by Luca and Matilde Bernabei in collaboration with Rai Cinema and with support from the Film Commission Torino Piemonte. Distribution is being taken care of by 01 which has placed it in 300 Italian cinemas.
