It’s hard growing up in Tardieu’s Du Vent Dans Les Mollets

by Fabien Lemercier

It’s hard growing up in Tardieu’s Du Vent Dans Les Mollets19/07/2011 - At the age of nine, Rachel discovers that Barbie is a bitch, that death exists, that her best friend isn’t invincible and that her schoolteacher is no longer a virgin. This is the starting point to Du Vent Dans Les Mollets (“Wind In the Calves”), the second feature by Carine Tardieu (who attracted attention in 2007 with In Mom’s Head [trailer]).

Currently shooting, the film boasts a cast including Agnès Jaoui(who has appeared in just one film in the last six years, in Let It Rain [trailer] in 2008), Denis Podalydès (The Conquest [trailer]), Isabelle Carré (Romantics Anonymous [trailer]), Isabella Rosselini (Late Bloomers) and Judith Magre.

Adapted by the director from the homonymous novel by Raphaële Moussafir (who has co-written the script), the film traces the misadventures of Rachel who sleeps fully clothed with her school satchel. A child psychiatrist (Rossellini) looks into the child’s day-to-day existence, her life, her minor worries and her bigger or lesser fears.

Jaoui and Podalydès play the little girl’s parents, while Carré appears as the mother of one of her friends.

Du Vent Dans Les Mollets is produced by Fabrice Goldstein and Antoine Rein for Karé Productions. Its €4.8m budget includes co-production support from Gaumont and Direct Cinéma, pre-acquisitions from Canal+ and Ciné+, a grant from the Ile-De-France region and backing from Sofica Cinémage and La Banque Postale Image.

Having kicked off on June 6, shooting will wrap on August 5. French distribution and international sales will be handled by Gaumont.
