Ile-de-France backs latest projects by Rosales and De Oliveira

20/10/2011 - Europe featured prominently at the third 2011 session of the Ile-de-France Regional Support Fund for Technical Film and Audiovisual Industries: the latest projects by Spain’s Jaime Rosales (pictured) and Portugal’s Manoel De Oliveira are among the seven selected titles. Also set to receive backing are forthcoming films by Catherine Corsini, François Ozon, Idit Cebula, Eugène Izraylit and Dominique Marchais.
Unveiled at the 2010 Cinéfondation Workshop at the Cannes Film Festival (see news), Rosales’s Dream and Silence will be backed to the tune of €158,000 by the Ile-de-France region, which this summer played host to 29 days of the 47-day shoot which has just wrapped in Spain. A 22% minority French co-production via Les Productions Balthazar (Jérôme Dopffer), the fourth feature by the director of
Co-scripted by the director and Enric Rufas, the film centres on a Spanish couple who live in Paris with their two daughters. During their holidays in Spain, the father and one of the daughters have a car accident. She dies instantly and he remains in a coma for several days. When he wakes up, he no longer remembers his deceased daughter, as if she had never existed.
The Ile-de-France region will also back Portuguese maestro De Oliveira’s Gebo and the Shadow (€300,000 in funding for this majority French production piloted by Mact Productions – see news); Corsini’s 3 Worlds (€470,000 for Pyramide Productions – see news); Ozon’s Dans La Maison (Mandarin Cinéma – see news); Cébula’s 13 rue Mandar (€47,000 for Thelma Films& Manchester Films); Izraylit’s A Quatre Mains (€416,000 – produced by Baiacedez Films); and Marchais’s documentary project France, Terra Incognita (€90,000 – Zadig Films).
