Cycling with Molière: two men, a classic, and an island
by Fabien Lemercier
01/03/2012 - After the success of The Women on the 6th Floor [trailer] (2.27 million admissions in France, a selection on the sidelines of the Berlinale 2011, a César for Best Supporting Actress for Carmen Maura, and releases in over 20 territories worldwide), Philippe Le Guay will start filming his seventh feature, Cycling with Molière, on March 14 on the île de Ré. The film’s cast is to include, for the third time, Fabrice Luchini (photo - this autumn in Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia by Laurent Tirard and In the House by François Ozon) who will co-star with Lambert Wilson (Of Gods and Men [trailer, film focus], at the end of April in Vous n’avez encore rien vu by Alain Resnais).
Written by Philippe Le Guay, the screenplay, the details of which the production prefers to keep a secret, revolves around two actors rehearsing Molière’s classic play, The Misanthrope.
Produced by Anne-Dominique Toussaint for Les Films des Tournelles, Cycling with Molière already benefits from co-production by France 2 Cinéma and Pathé Films (who will lead distribution in France as well as international sales), and pre-sales by Canal + and Ciné +. The film will be shot from March 14 to April 27 on the île de Ré before a final week in Paris.
Les Films des Tournelles recently produced Where Do We Go Now? [trailer] by Nadine Labaki and have their hands on Riad Sattouf (The French Kissers [trailer])’s second feature film, currently at the end of its writing phase.
