Nanni Moretti in “quiet chaos”
by Angelica Tosoni
08/05/2007 - Just barely a year after the release of his The Caiman [trailer, film focus], Nanni Moretti is returning to cinema, as an actor. As of yesterday, May 7, the director has been working on the Rome set of Caos Calmo (lit. “Quiet Chaos”), based on the eponymous novel by Sandro Veronesi, last year’s winner of the prestigious Italian Strega Prize for literature.
Produced by Domenico Procacci’s Fandango and RAI Cinema, and directed by Antonello Grimaldi, the film tells the story of Pietro Paladini, whose wife dies of an aneurysm at the same moment that he is faraway at sea, saving the life of another woman, a stranger; a bizarre coincidence that Pietro is unable to explain to his daughter Claudia.
Moretti, who also co-wrote the script with Laura Paolucci and Francesco Piccolo, plays the lead, leaving someone else to work behind the camera, 12 years after The Second Time, in which he was directed by Mimmo Calopresti. The cast of the new film also features Valeria Golino, Alessandro Gassman, Isabella Ferrari, Silvio Orlando, Hippolite Girardot, Charles Berling e Roberto Nobile.
The crew of Caos Calmo, shooting of which will wrap at the end of June, includes Alessandro Pesci (DoP), Giada Calabria (production design), Alexandra Toesca (costume design) and Angelo Nicolini (editor).
