StudioCanal lays out ambitious stall

04/05/2009 - Set to showcase Robert Guédiguian’s The Army of Crime [trailer] (official selection, out of competition) and Nassim Amaouche’s Adieu Gary Cooper [trailer] (Critics’ Week), StudioCanal’s international sales team – headed by Harold van Lier – intend to make the most of their diverse line-up at the Film Market at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival (May 13-24).

Among the market screenings, StudioCanal will unveil the three UK thrillers belonging to The Red Riding Trilogy (Julian Jarrold’s 1974, James Marsh’s 1980 and Anand Tucker’s 1983); French director Philippe Godeau’s redemptive drama about alcoholism, One for the Road, starring François Cluzet; Cécile Telerman’s comedy Blame It on Mum (formerly known as La faute des mères - French release: May 27); the German/Italian/French animated feature Friends Forever by Danish duo Tony Loeser and Jesper Moller (to be released in Germany on July 23 and France on October 21); and Gad Elmaleh’s Gallic hit Coco [trailer].

Forthcoming titles include Around the World in 50 Years by Belgium’s Ben Stassen (Fly Me to the Moon [trailer]), which is currently in production and has been pre-sold for the UK and Germany; as well as several features in post-production: Atom Egoyan’s Chloe, starring Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson; Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s French/Belgian co-production Oscar and the Lady in Pink, featuring Michèle Laroque and Max von Sydow; Thomas Balmès’ documentary Baby(ies); and Marcos Efron’s US/Argentinean co-production And Soon the Darkness.

This rich line-up is completed by Daniel Stamm’s US horror film Cotton (in pre-production) and French director Caroline Bottaro’s Queen to Play, starring Sandrine Bonnaire and Kevin Kline (French release: August 12).
