Eric, Chéri get P&A boost

28/05/2009 - Ken Loach’s Looking for Eric [trailer, film focus], which screened In Competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, has received £125,000 from the UK Film Council’s Prints and Advertising Fund. The award allows Icon Film Distribution to double the release from 100 to 200 screens and promote the football themed film during the Champions League cup final.

Pathé Distribution received £150,000 for Stephen Frears’ Chéri [trailer, film focus], thereby widening the release from 40 to 80 screens. Metrodome Distribution received £100,000 for Fred Cavayé’s Anything for Her [trailer], increasing the release of the film from 30 to 40 sites.

Warner Music Entertainment received £29,000 to increase distribution of Jamie Jay Johnson’s documentary Sounds Like Teen Spirit. Park Circus Limited received £25,675 for the Albert R “Cubby” Broccoli Centenary/James Bond Season, a season of digitally restored classic James Bond films. Restored versions of Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service will screen on consecutive Sundays at over 60 cinemas across the UK. The P&A funding will cover the costs of national press, cinema and Internet advertising for all four films.

A number of smaller awards of £5,000 include:

Metrodome for Safy Nebbou’s Mark of an Angel [trailer]; Artificial Eye for Bent Hamer’s O'Horten [trailer], for Agnès Varda’s The Beaches of Agnès [trailer], and for Claude Chabrol’s The Girl Cut in Two [trailer]; The Works UK Distribution for Dennis Lee’s Fireflies in the Garden; Dogwoof for Rupert Murray’s environmental documentary The End of the Line; Yume Pictures for Fernando Eimbcke’s Lake Tahoe; and Soda Pictures for Jeremy Podeswa’s Fugitive Pieces.

In addition, Artificial Eye also received £4,710 for Polish master Andrzej Wajda’s Katyn [trailer, film focus].
