Co-written by the two directors, the film traces the trials and tribulations of a blue-collar worker (Depardieu) who is approaching retirement after working since the age of 16. But in order to receive his pension, he has to track down six former employers who forgot to declare him for tax purposes.

Urged by his wife (Moreau), he gets on his old motorbike, a Mammoth (whence his nickname), and sets off for the places of his youth. This journey brings him face to face with his former employers, old friends, long-lost family and the memory of his first love.

He gradually realises that in the past they all took him for an idiot – and still do today. But when his niece introduces him to her non-conformist friends, she opens up new horizons for him.

Adjani plays a woman who has been in a coma for 40 years.

Produced by GMT Productions, Mammuth has received pre-sales from Canal + and Ciné Cinéma as well as backing from the Poitou-Charentes region.

Shooting is scheduled to last from July 27-August 29, with three weeks in Angoulême and Montemboeuf followed by two weeks in Royan and Saint-Palais. Ad Vitam will manage domestic distribution, while international sales are still under negotiation.
