Demoustier reunites with Czajka on D'amour et D'eau Fraîche
by Fabien Lemercier
27/08/2009 - Winner of the Leopard for Best Debut Film at Locarno 2006 for The Year After [trailer], Isabelle Czajka started shooting in mid-August in Ile-de-France on her second feature, D'amour et D'eau Fraîche (“Love and Fresh Water”).
Produced by Agat Films & Ex Nihilo, the film stars Anaïs Demoustier (nominee for Best Female Newcomer Cesar 2009 for Grown Ups [trailer] and lead actress in The Year After) and Pio Marmaï (nominated for Best Male Newcomer Cesar 2009 for The First Day of the Rest of Your Life [trailer] and set to appear as of October 14 in La Loi de Murphy). The cast also includes Laurent Poitrenaux.
Written by the director, the film centres on young, 22-year-old Julie, who has just finished her studies and is looking for her first job. Full of enthusiasm, dreams and hopes, she is confronted with the harsh human relations of the workplace and low-skilled employment.
Unfortunately for her, she also meets and is seduced by a charming young man whose easy money philosophy will lead her down illegal paths.
Producer Patrick Sobelman commented: "I really liked the written style of the screenplay. Only afterwards did I watch The Year After". He continued: "After four rather demanding films (The Other One [trailer], Anna M. [trailer], Don’t Look Back [trailer] and Lucas Belvaux’s Rapt, to be released on November 11), I enjoyed producing a film with lower financial stakes."
However, this hasn’t prevented Sobelman from developing, at the same time, forthcoming features by Solveig Anspach, Pierre Trividic, Michel Spinosa and Jean-Pierre Darroussin. These will be followed by projects by Marina De Van, Belvaux and Lucile Hadzihalilovic.
Produced by Agat Films & Ex Nihilo, D'amour et D’eau Fraîche has co-production support from France 3 Cinéma and pre-sales from Canal + and Ciné Cinéma. Shooting will wrap on September 25 after two weeks in Languedoc-Roussillon and the film is expected for release in March 2010.
Domestic distribution will be handled by Bac Films, who have also acquired the video and international sales rights.
