The Dancer and the Thief heads to LA
by Sergio Ríos Pérez
30/09/2009 - Sixteen years after winning the coveted statuette for Belle Epoque, Fernando Trueba will once again represent Spain in the race for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nomination, with The Dancer and the Thief [trailer]. The film marks his return to narrative cinema after seven years working on documentaries.
The Spanish Film Academy members opted for the most classic of the three shortlisted titles – Gordos [trailer, film focus], Map of the Sounds of Tokyo [trailer] and Trueba’s film (see news) – which may prove to be more in tune with the tastes of their Hollywood counterparts.
The Spanish contender is produced by Fernando Trueba Producciones and sold internationally by 6sales. It will be released in Spain by Notro Films on November 27.
