Co-written by the director and Belgium’s Philippe Blasband, the film describes the love at first sight between Angélique (Carré) and Jean-René (Poelvoorde), who are both extremely shy and meet at a therapy group for individuals suffering from complexes and serious communication problems. Although love blossoms, their difficulty in expressing their feelings will complicate the situation.

Winner of the Cannes Critics’ Week Prize 1996 for The Confessions of an Innocent Man, Améris also won Best Director at San Sebastian in 2001 for That’s Life and presented Lightweight in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes 2004. He also received the 2008 Critics’ Union Award for Best TV Drama for Maman Est Folle, starring Carré.

Produced by Philippe Godeau for Pan Européenne, Emotifs Anonymes has co-production support from Belgian company Climax Films and a pre-sale from Canal +.

After two and a half weeks in Lyon, the shoot will relocate to Paris, where it will wrap up in mid-December. Studio Canal will handle French distribution and international sales.
