Tokyo celebrates German films

The 5th Festival of German Films in Tokyo (October 15-18) will be presented by German Films with their traditional partner, the Goethe Institut in Japan, with further German and Japanese partners and sponsors.

The festival will open with Fatih Akin’s Soul Kitchen [+see also:

, which will presented to Tokyo audiences by the film’s screenwriter/lead actor Adam Bousdoukos, actress Pheline Roggan and producer Klaus Maeck.

Further films in the main programme are: Kai Wessel’s Hilde [+see also:

and Marie Miyayama’s The Red Spot, whose directors will be on hand to present their films; Heinrich Breloer’s The Buddenbrooks: The Decline of a Family [+see also:

; Caroline Link’s A Year Ago in Winter [+see also:

]
; the collective title Germany 09 [+see also:

]
; as well as the short film program Next Generation 2009.

On the occasion of the event’s fifth anniversary, two titles released successfully in Japan will also be shown in a retrospective: Sandra Nettelbeck’s Mostly Martha [+see also:

film profile
]
and Tom Tykwer’s Run Lola Run .

German Films will further organize a lunch between Japanese distributors and representatives of German world sales companies.

Festival partners include BKM, the German Federal Film Board (FFA), FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, FilmFoerderung Hamburg, Filmstiftung NRW, Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Wuerttemberg, Mitteldeutsche Medienfoerderung, Nordmedia, AG Kurzfilm and the Goethe Institut Tokyo.
