film profile] (“Kidnapping!”), the Dijon Film Meetings organised by the ARP (Civil Society of Writers-Directors-Producers) get to the heart of the matter today with president Claude Lelouch and guests Steven Soderbergh and Walter Salles.
The debates will focus first of all on the subject "Cinema and independence in the age of economic concentration" (led by UGC director general Alain Sussfeld and Italy’s Andrea Purgatori of the Centautori movement). This will be followed by the panel discussion "Film financing in the Internet age", led by directors Radu Mihaileanu and Pierre Jolivet, with speakers including Rodophe Belmer (Canal +), Xavier Couture (Orange) and Culture Minister Frédéric Mitterrand.
Saturday will begin with the debate "Is France moving towards copyright law?", moderated by filmmaker Jean-Paul Salomé, with contributors including producer Eric Altmayer (Mandarin Cinéma and president of the APC), director Michel Hazanavicius, Elias Davis (Writers Guild of America, West), Pascal Rogard (director general of the SACD) and art agent François Samuelson (Intertalent).
The Dijon Meetings will also look at "The movie theatre in distribution windows", with Véronique Cayla (director general of the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC), Jean Labé (president of the National Federation of French Cinemas), producer and distributor Carole Scotta (Haut et Court - also president of DIRE) and Alain Rocca (Lazennec Productions and president of Universciné).
This evening, homage will be paid to Claude Berri with the screening of his final film Trésor [+see also:

There will be around 400 professionals in attendance this year at Dijon, with representatives from all sectors of the film industry. Names include Dany Boon, Agnès Varda, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Costa Gavras, Alain Chabat, Djamel Bensalah, Rémi Besançon, Fanny Ardant, Jean-Marielle, Thomas Langmann (La Petite Reine), Philippe Martin (Les Films Pelléas), Alain Terzian (Alter Films), Brahim Chioua, Vincent Grimond (Wild Bunch) and Jérôme Seydoux (Pathé).
