Protektor wins lion’s share of Lions

No blue aliens or bomb-disposal squads in Prague: the awards go to Protektor.

The award for Best Picture went to Protektor at the Czech Lions ceremony. The WW2-set film, about a morally compromised journalist's attempt to protect his Jewish wife, also earned director Marek Najbrt (Champions) trophies for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Jana Plodková was named Best Actress for her role in the film.

Protektor is produced by Negativ with the support of MEDIA and the Czech State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography. Falcon distributes the film in the Czech Republic. High Point sells the film internationally.

The award for Best Cinematography went to 3 Seasons In Hell [+see also:

. EFP Shooting Star Kryštof Hádek received the Best Actor award for his starring role in the film, about a hedonistic poet's clash with the reality of communism in post-war Czechoslovakia.

3 Seasons In Hell is directed by Tomáš Mašín and produced by Dawson Film, Babelsberg Film and Trigon Production with support from MEDIA, Eurimages, the Czech state fund and the Slovak Ministry of Culture.

Jan Hřebejk's film Kawasaki's Rose [+see also:

, which won the CICAE Award and Ecumenical Jury Prize in the Panorama section at Berlin, came away from the Czech Lions with awards for supporting actors Ladislav Chudík and Daniela Kolářová. Kawasaki's Rose is produced by In Film Praha with the support of the Czech state fund. Bonton Film is the Czech distributor.

Among other awards at the March 6 ceremony, Best Foreign Film went to Slumdog Millionaire [+see also:
