Bauder shoots debut narrative feature Das System

Marc Bauder (35) who trained at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Film School, is embarking on his debut narrative feature, after his documentary Last to Know (presented in the Berlinale Panorama in 2006). Shooting on Das System started on March 19, in Rostock and Warnemünde. The team will then relocate to Halle, Leipzig and Berlin.

The film is a thriller centred on two young delinquents from housing estates, Mike (Jacob Matschenz, seen in Christian Ditter’s The Crocodiles [+see also:

) and Dustin (Florian Renner, who has just one film under his belt, Florian Gaag’s multiple award-winning Wholetrain [+see also:

), who break into a villa. There, they come across a businessman (Bernhard Schütz, recently seen in 66/67 [+see also:

) and Mike soon realises that this man knows something about his father’s mysterious death during the time of the GDR.

Das System is produced by brothers Alexander and Manuel Bickenbach (see interview) for their Berlin-based company Frisbeefilms. The outfit was also behind Maximilian Erlenwein’s Gravity [+see also:

, starring Jürgen Vogel, which won the latest Max Ophüls Prize (plus three other awards) and was released in German theatres on March 25.

German distributor Filmlichter will launch Das System next year.
