Sarajevo competition features four world premieres, Puiu heads jury

02/07/2010 - South-Eastern Europe’s key cinema event, the Sarajevo Film Festival (July 23-31), has announced feature and documentary competitions.
The four world premieres in the feature competition – whose jury will be presided by Romanian filmmaker Cristi Puiu – are Barbara Eder’s Inside America (Austria), Nedzad Begovic’s Jasmina (Bosnia), Jasmin Durakovic’s Sevdah for Karim (Bosnia and Herzegovina/Hungary/Croatia) and Nikola Lezaic’s Tilva Rosh (Serbia).
The competition also includes Un Certain Regard titles Adrienn Pal [trailer, film focus] by Agnes Kocsis and Tuesday, After Christmas [trailer, film focus] by Radu Muntean, and the Berlinale Forum entry Bibliotheque Pascal [trailer, film focus] by Szabolcs Hajdu. Turkey’s Vavien by Yagmar and Durul Taydan rounds up the selection.
The documentary competition features six world premieres: Vladimir Gojun’s Cycles (Croatia), Goran Devic’s The Flood (Croatia), Robert Zuber’s Mila Seeking Senida (Bosnia and Herzegovina/Serbia/Slovenia), Biljana Garvanlieva’s The Seamstresses (Macedonia/Germany), Marianna Economou’s Twelve Neighbours (Greece) and Boro Kontic’s Years Eaten by Lions (Bosnia).
The international premieres include Istvan Nagy’s Hard Lines (Hungary), Alexandru Solomon’s Kapitalism: Our Improved Formula (Romania/France/Belgium), Huseyin Tabak’s Kick Off (Austria), Doga Kilcioglu’s Married to the Camera (Turkey), Milan Nikodijevic’s Mica and the Stories Around Her (Serbia), Sophia Tzavella’s Paradise Hotel (Bulgaria) and Vanja Kovacevic’s A Star Is Born (Serbia).
The line-up also includes Zeljko Mirkovic’s The Long Road Through Balkan History (Serbia), Yeliz Shukri’s Murid (Cyprus), Nenad Puhovski’s Together (Croatia) and Alexander Nanau’s The World According to Ion B (Romania).
The Focus programme will present five regional films out of competition: Reha Erdem’s Kosmos [trailer], Jessica Hausner’s Lourdes [trailer, film focus], Calin Peter Netzer’s Medal of Honor [trailer], Jasmila Zbanic’s On the Path [trailer], omnibuses Some Other Stories [trailer] and Tales from Kars, and Puiu’s Aurora [trailer].
