Working Title launches Tinker, Tailor and Little Mermaid
Working Title has launched two ambitious projects, both literary adaptations – Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, based on John le Carre’s 1974 bestseller and The Little Mermaid, a live action version of Hans Christian Anderson’s 1837 fairytale.

film profile]) will take on Tinker, Tailor, which is being made by Working Title in association with Studio Canal. Amongst the all-star British cast of the post-cold war thriller are Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Michael Fassbender. British writer Peter Morgan (The Queen [+see also:

film profile], Frost/Nixon) has adapted the novel.
Le Carre’s novel spawned a popular 1979 television series starring Alec Guinness.
Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner produce while Debra Hayward, Liza Chasin, Le Carre and Morgan will serve as executive producers. The team is preparing for an October shoot in London.
Meanwhile, The Little Mermaid reunites Joe Wright (Atonement [+see also:

film profile]) with Working Title. This version of the classic story “has been particularly inspired by a production that The Little Angel Theatre Company staged as part of their repertoire of children’s tales using puppets” according to company. The adaptation is by Abi Morgan (Brick Lane [+see also:

Mermaid has been adapted numerous times for film and television with there being Disney, Czech, Russian and Japanese versions amongst many others.
Wright’s most recent film, Hanna, starring Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana, is currently in post-production.
