Lazio belongs to women this July

by

July is an intense month for the Roma Lazio Film Commission, which is working hard to provide support and assistance to various productions underway in the region.

Shooting has just wrapped on Cinque ore di luna piena (“Five Hours of a Full Moon”), produced by Lello Monteverde and Cristina Zucchiatti of the Leader Film Company. It is the feature debut of Italian-Danish artist Nicolaj Pennestri, from a screenplay by Francesco Cinquemani, and stars Kasia Smutniak and Roberto Zibetti.

The film is one of four episodes of a unique and innovative project tentatively entitled Thriller X. Each episode of this anthology of thrillers pays tribute to a different side of the genre and features a female protagonist. Besides Smutniak, Andrea Osvart stars in L'intruso (“The Intruder”), and Margaret Madè in Buio (“Darkness”). The production company is still casting for the lead of L’Eredità (“The Legacy”), the last instalment of the series.

Shot in English, since they will be distributed by a US major, the films use avant-garde technology, including Red Cam, used by Steven Soderbergh on Che [+see also:

Another “female set”, at Cinecittà, is that of Ruggero Dipaola’s Appartamento ad Atene (“Apartment in Athens”) with Laura Morante. The film, a co-production between Italy’s L’Occhio e la Luna and Germany’s Pandora Filmproduktion is promoted by the co-production meetings CRC Capital Regions for Cinema, organized by the Roma Lazio Film Commission with the Film Commission network of the European regions Ile de France, Lazio, Comunidad de Madrid and Berlin-Brandenburg.

The story of hatred, revenge and freedom, set in 1940s Athens, is made with funding from the Ministry of Culture (MiBAC) and developed with a contribution from the EU’s MEDIA Programme.

Shooting continues in Rome and Hadrian’s Villa in Tivoli on Notizie degli scavi (“News from the Digs) by Emidio Greco. Based on the Franco Lucentini novel, it stars Ambra Angiolini and Giuseppe Battiston.

During the upcoming Venice Film Festival, at the Venice Days Filmmakers Villa, the Roma Lazio Film Commission and MEDIA Desk Italia will hold professional breakfasts on MEDIA production support. There will also be, at Cinecittà Luce’s festival space, a discussion on the state of transnational distribution in Europe, in light of the significant contribution made by the MEDIA Programme to improve the distribution of European films.
