FESTIVALS France

Rupert Everett at the Festival of Paris

by

British actor, Rupert Everett (My Best Friend’s Wedding, The importance of being Earnest) will preside over the jury at the 18th Festival of Paris scheduled to unroll from 24 March to 1 April 2003. This edition will focus exclusively on British cinema.
Despite the decision of the Paris Municipality to withdraw all financial support in favour of another Parisian film event, the Paris Film Festival and its honorary president, Isabelle Adjani did not lose heart and found the money elsewhere.
Last year’s edition was dedicated to Spain. This year the organisers selected some 100 British productions (including retrospectives, premieres, and first and second-time films) – the full programme will be announced early in March. The Paris Film Festival will give French filmgoers a welcome opportunity to see the best that Britain can produce: in spite of long-standing agreement to exchange films set up between the National Film Centre and the British Film Council, few Brit films are ever released in France.
That is why a new initiative launched by ED Distribution merits a mention. They are to distribute Gallivant, Andrew Kötting’s directorial feature debut in France. Kötting recently won the best new director accolade at the Edinburgh Festival.
