Ozon's two layers
14/02/2003 - Next week will see French director François Ozon begin shooting his new film entitled 5 x 2 [trailer] , five episodes in the life of a man and woman played by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Stéphane Freiss (Monsieur N, Betty Fischer).
Ozon, 35, who came to the forefront of international attention for his 8 Women [trailer], has been turning out films at an impressive rate : 5x2 is his seventh feature since his 1998 directorial debut, Sitcom. His most recent film, Swimming Pool [trailer], stars Charlotte Rampling and Ludivine Sagnier, and is scheduled for a domestic release in the spring, and an appearance in Cannes in May is also on the cards.
Ozon’s films are considered a safe bet in the French industry and they attract the attention of foreign buyers even before the first scene is in the can: 5x2 has already been sold at the current European Film Market in Berlin to Celluloid Dreams in Benelux, Greece, Italy, Russia and Switzerland. Both 5x2 and Swimming Pool were produced by François Ozon’s usual team of Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc from Fidélité Productions. There is every indication that 2003-2004 will be spectacular for Ozon, a leading exponent of the new generation of French filmmakers.
