Film world mourns Liz Taylor

by

Dame Elizabeth Taylor, one of the last legends of Hollywood’s golden age, died of heart failure on Wednesday at the age of 79. The star was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles in February and her condition appeared to have stabilised.

Taylor, who won two Oscars and four Golden Globes, made her acting debut at the age of 10 in Lassie Come Home (1943). She will be remembered for her magnificent performances in films like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) and Suddenly, Last Summer (1959), both adapted from plays by Tennessee Williams; as well as Cleopatra (1963) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966).
