Benigni enters Wrong Picture for Woody
The news was confirmed by Roberto Benigni’s press office: the Tuscan actor-comedian will appear in the new film by Woody Allen, The Wrong Picture. The juicy rumours started circling the US film sites yesterday but now it’s official: the two comic giants will work together.
Benigni, a three-time Oscar winner in 1999 for Life is Beautiful, will flank Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, Jesse Eisenberg and Ellen Page in the film Allen will begin shooting in Rome this August.
Allen had contacted Benigni recently to find out whether Italy’s most renowned comedian was free between July and August. Nothing is known about Benigni’s role, or the film’s plot, except that it’s a comedy.
All that’s missing now is the official announcement by Allen, which he could make in Cannes, which he will open with his newest film, Midnight in Paris.
