13/05/2011 - Danish director Lars von Trier and Martin Scorsese have confirmed that they will team together for a follow-up to von Trier's 2003 documentary, The Five Obstructions. Denmark’s TrustNordisk is handling international sales.
In The Five Obstructions, von Trier asked the filmmaker Jorgen Leth to remake his short film, The Perfect Human, from 1967, five times, while providing him a different set of obstructions each time. Von Trier is now set to give Scorsese his own set of “obstructions” with more details to be revealed.
The co-production between Scorsese's Sikelia Productions and von Trier's Zentropa Real is looking to go into production next year. It will be produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff for Sikelia Productions and Carsten Holst and Louise Vesth on behalf of Zentropa Real.
Scorsese's next feature film, Silence, is set to begin production in early 2012 and his upcoming film, Hugo Cabret, will be released November 2011.
Von Trier's latest film, Melancholia [trailer, film focus], will be premiering May 18 in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
