Black Bread showcased at "Dífferent 4! L'Autre Cinéma Espagnol"

17/06/2011 - Winner of nine gongs, including Best Film, at this year’s Goyas, Agustí Villaronga’s Black Bread [trailer] (see news) will be presented on Monday, June 21 before a Parisian audience at a screening attended by the director and its producer Isona Passola, as part of Dífferent 4! L'Autre Cinéma Espagnol. The film will be released in France on August 24 by Alfama Films.

The event was set up to draw French distributors’ attention to around ten Spanish films previously unreleased in France. Having kicked off on Wednesday, its fourth edition has so far been very successful with many French professionals coming to meet with representatives of the selected Spanish films yesterday.

Among those in attendance were Carole Scotta (Haut et Court), Jean-François Deveau (MK2), Vérane Frédiani (La Fabrique 2), Didier Costet (Swift Distribution), Daniel Chabannes (Epicentre), Etienne Ollagnier (Jour2fête) and Michel Zana (Sophie Dulac Distribution). Other names include Le Pacte, Bodega Films, Eurozoom, Colifilms, Océan Films, Chrysalis, Heliotrope, Albany Films Distribution, Eye on Films, Indie Circle, not to mention certain sellers (Wide Management and Insomnia) and Canal +.

Organised by Espagnolas En Paris and the Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the ICAA, the Ramon Llull Institute and Cine+, Différent 4 will run until June 21, at the Chaplin, Majestic Passy and Nouveau Latina cinemas. Highlights in the line-up include Sergio Caballero’s Finisterrae (top winner at Rotterdam – see video interview); Lluis Galter’s Caracremada [trailer] (“Burnt Face”, unveiled at Venice in 2010); Ventura Durall’s The 2 Lives Of Andrés Rabadán (see review); and Manuel Martín Cuenca’s Half of Oscar (see news).

The event will also unspool Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga’s For 80 Days (Best Screenplay at Lecce); Swiss/Spanish co-production The Most Important Thing In Life Is Not Being Dead by directorial trio Olivier Piclet, Pablo Martín Torrado and Marc Recuenco; Lluís Miñarro’s Familystrip [trailer]; Jorge Coira’s 18 Meals [trailer] (see news); and the documentaries There Are No Outdoor Ice Rinks In Madrid by Bruno Lázaro Pacheco and Flamenco, Flamenco by Carlos Saura.

Finally, seven projects have been selected for the co-production meeting Small is Biútiful: Roser Aguilar’s Brava (produced by Iberrota); Manuel Martín Cuenca’s Caníbal (La Loma Blanca); Alex Brendemühl’s Carnaval, Carnaval (Voodoo); Hielo by Alvaro Giménez Sarmiento and María del Puy Alvarado (Malvalanda); Seven Days in August by José Mari Goenaga and Jon Garaño (Irusoin); Anna M. Bofarull’s Sonata For Cello (KaBoGa); and Cesc Gay’s A Gun In Each Hand (Messidor). The first images from Miguel Ángel Jiménez’s Chaika (Common Films) will also be screened, a project presented at last year’s Small is Biútiful and currently in post-production.
