Golden Globes: We Have a Pope Best Film, two Globes for Emidio Greco

04/07/2011 - We Have a Pope [trailer, film focus] is also the choice of foreign film journalists – after having won six Nastri d'Argento Awards by the Italian film press (see news), Nanni Moretti’s latest work won Golden Globe for Best Film given to him last Saturday in Rome by the Foreign Press Association in Italy. Mario Martone has also confirmed his strong position in this season’s awards with We Believed [trailer, film focus] (which has already won seven David di Donatello Awards, including best film and Nastro of the Year 2011), which received the Foreign Press Grand Prix .

Unexpected, however, were the Globes for Best Director and Best Screenplay which went to Emidio Greco for Notizie dagli scavi (“News from the Digs”) with Ambra Angiolini and Giuseppe Battiston, while Massimiliano Bruno’s film Nessuno mi può giudicare [trailer] (“No One Can Judge Me”) was once again declared Best Comedy (after having won the same title at the Nastri d'Argento Awards), and its protagonist, Raoul Bova, won Best Actor. Best Actress went to Piera Degli Esposti for the film I bambini della sua vita (The Children of her Life); Mohamed Zouaoui (The Flowers of Kirkuk [trailer]) and Victoria Larchenko (La bella gente [trailer]) were each given an award for Best Up and Coming Actor.

The foreign journalists’ choice of Best Debut Feature went to 20 Cigarettes [trailer] by Aureliano Amadei, about the Nassiriya massacre. Best Cinematography went to Fabio Cianchetti in The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Saverio Costanzo. Riccardo Scamarcio was awarded the European Golden Globe, while Best European Film was won by In a Better World by Susanne Bier.
