Venice: Two debut films open Controcampo, jury selected

The two films will be screened in a world premiere at the Venice Lido on Friday, September 2 and will compete in the Controcampo Award for feature films and in the Controcampo for short films respectively.

Scialla (pictured), produced by Beppe Caschetto for ITC Movie in collaboration with Rai Cinema (who will distribute it), with executive producer Rita Rognoni for Pupkin Production, is the story of a rowdy 15-year-old who's in search of guidance and of a childless teacher who has left the profession. The film stars Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Barbora Bobulova, Vinicio Marchioni and the very young emerging actor Filippo Scicchitano.

Il maestro, produced by Maria Grazia Cucinotta’s Seven Dreams Productions and distributed by Diva Universal, takes its inspiration from the life of the director’s grandfather and tells the story of a teacher, played by Renato Scarpa, who, once retired, finds himself alone and abandoned, after having dedicated his life to his work.

The jury for Controcampo Italiano, chaired by Roberta Torre, has also been selected - the director, who opened the Controcampo section last year with the internationally successful Lost Kisses [+see also:
