Strong German presence in Montreal

22/08/2011 - The 35th Montreal World Film Festival (August 18–28) is screening numerous of German (co)productions.
In competition, Brigitte Bertele is presenting her feature debut, The Fire (produced by Filmsyndikat), while Sebastian Grobler will be showing Lessons of a Dream [trailer] (Deutschfilm, Cuckoo Clock Entertainment, Senator Filmproduktion), starring Daniel Brühl, while Pia Strietmann is presenting A Family of Three, from Toccata Film.
The German/French/Italian co-production Playoff [trailer], by Eran Riklis, is also running. Alexander Mindadze's Innocent Saturday, a German co-production in competition at the last Berlinale (see review), will screen out of competition.
The sidebar Focus on World Cinema is featuring the much-acclaimed Almanya – Welcome to Germany [trailer] by Yasemin Samdereli (Roxy Film, see review), Kirsi Marie Liimatainen's Fortress [trailer] (Kordes & Kordes Filmproduktion), Ciril Braem Tscheligi's My Prince. My King (Anna Wendt Filmproduktion), Sabine Bernardi's Romeos [trailer] (Boogie Film), Jan Schomburg's Above Us Only Sky [trailer] (Pandora, read review), and Stephan Rick's The Good Neighbour (Kurhaus Productions), as well as four co-productions.
In the short films section of the same sidebar, 11 titles have been selected. The number of German documentaries presented in the Documentaries of the World programme is equally impressive, with nine productions on show.
