Another Earth, Bonsai to bookend Raindance

07/09/2011 - Sci-fi drama Another Earth, a US production by Mike Cahill will open the 19th Raindance Film Festival (September 28 – October 8) in London. Chilean director Christian Jimenez’s slacker romance Bonsai, loosely structured on Marcel Proust’s Remembrance Of Things Past, will close the festival.
In all Raindance will feature 90 UK premieres from 36 countries, including more than 30 international premieres. The festival’s Homegrown strand showcases the best of British independent cinema. Selections in this section include Will Sharpe and Tom Kingsley’s Black Pond; Johnny Daukes’ black comedy Acts Of Godfrey; Dana Lustig’s passion drama A Thousand Kisses Deep; Michael Axelgaard’s supernatural thriller Hollow; and Julian Kerridge’s coming of age film Sea Monsters.
The Balkan strand features Nikola Lezaic’s skater film Tilva Ros [trailer]; Dragan Bjelogrlic’s Montevideo – Taste of Dream, Serbia’s entry to the Oscars and the country’s biggest hit of all time; Rajko Grlic’s Croatian infidelity tale Just Between Us [trailer]; Macedonian filmmaker Vladimir Blazevski’s Punk Is Not Dead; and Dejan Zecevic’s paranormal thriller The Enemy [trailer, film focus], a Serbia/Bosnia and Herzegovina/Croatia/Hungary co-production.
Raindance also has dedicated strands to European cinema, the Far East, documentaries and shorts.
