Kiberlain leads the investigation in Pauline Détective
by Fabien Lemercier
13/09/2011 - Shooting started yesterday on Pauline Détective, the third feature by Marc Fitoussi after The Artist’s Life [trailer] (2007) and Copacabana [trailer] (unveiled in Cannes Critics’ Week 2010).
This detective comedy stars the outstanding Sandrine Kiberlain(pictured), who was nominated for the Best Actress César 2010 for Mademoiselle Chambon [trailer] and recently garnered acclaim in Service Entrance [trailer], Poliss [trailer, film focus] and The Bird. The cast also includes Audrey Lamy (All That Glitters [trailer], My Piece of the Pie [trailer]) and Italian thesp Claudio Santamaria (Terraferma [trailer, film focus]).
Scripted by the director, the film centres on Pauline, a dynamic forty-something who is a model-maker for a famous criminal investigation journal. She believes so firmly in her professional and romantic happiness that she has just ended her course of psychoanalysis.
This is the moment her boyfriend chooses to dump her, on the eve of the long holidays. Inconsolable, she lets herself be whisked away to an Italian luxury hotel by her brother-in-law and younger sister, a tiresomely narcissistic TV starlet.
But rather than basking in the sun on a deckchair, Pauline soon gets it into her head that a crime has been committed on the premises…Is it due to a lack of anything to do or the habit of her job? She will stop at nothing to discover the truth, to the great displeasure of her sister who really doesn’t want the tranquillity of her holiday to be disturbed.
Produced by Haut et Court, Pauline Détective is co-produced by France 3 Cinéma and Studio 37, which has also acquired the international sales rights. Pre-bought by Canal + and Ciné+, the film will be shot over eight weeks mainly in the Languedoc-Roussillon region which has also provided production support.
