Fabicki starts shooting Love

23/09/2011 - Having first come to attention in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2006 with his debut feature Retrieval [trailer], Slawomir Fabicki (pictured) has just started shooting on Love. Although the film’s budget is far from astronomical, the director has managed to put together a cast with some of Poland’s best acting talent, including Marcin Dorociński (The Reverse [trailer, film focus]), Julia Kijowska (In Darkness), Adam Woronowicz (The Christening [trailer, film focus]), Agata Kulesza (Suicide Room) and Marian Dziędziel (Battle of Warsaw 1920).
The film centres on the crisis-stricken marriage of Maria and Tomek. These thirty-somethings with good professional careers are doing out their apartment to welcome their longed-for first child. Nothing seems to trouble their daily life.
But Maria hides a shocking event that happens to her, which will change her considerably and affect her relationship with her husband. Their happy love is thus put to the test.
Produced by Odeon Rybarczyk Productions, Love has a €825,000 budget including co-production support from Anagram Film and €625,000 in backing from the Polish Film Institute. Shooting is scheduled to last until October 20 in the Warsaw area with lensing by DoP Piotr Szczepanski. The film will be released in Polish theatres in autumn 2012 by Elias Sp. z o.o.
In the young Polish cinema sphere, Fabicki attracted attention with his fictional short Man’s Thing (nominated for an Oscar in 2001), while Retrieval, besides being selected at Cannes (where it received a Special Mention from the Ecumenical Jury), was picked in 2006 as Poland’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar and was nominated for the European Film Awards.
