Donkeys to the fore at BAFTA Scotland

14/11/2011 - Morag McKinnon’s Donkeys (pictured) won Best Feature Film at the annual British Academy Scotland Awards on Sunday. James Cosmo won in the Best Actor/Actress category for the same film.

Peter Mullan was a double winner for NEDS [trailer], taking home the Best Director and Best Writer Awards. Carter Ferguson’s Fast Romance won the audience award.

Actor Robbie Coltrane was conferred the Outstanding Contribution to Film award. He dedicated the award to his children, saying, “My children have had to put up with quite a lot of nonsense from having a famous dad. But neither of them have ever said, ‘Why don’t you get a proper job?’ ”

Jessica Ashman’s Fixing Luka won the animation award while Colin Kennedy’s I Love Luci won Best Short Film.

The awards returned this year after a year’s absence and took place in Glasgow. The cream of Scotland’s industry turned up in force with Peter Mullan, James Cosmo, Robbie Coltrane, Kaye Adams, Richard Wilson, Ewan Bremner, Peter Capaldi, Karen Dunbar, Greg McHugh and Kirsty Young walking the red carpet.
