Delpy, Frears, Marsh and Cortés among world premieres at Sundance

07/12/2011 - After the announcement of the European titles set to screen at the Sundance Film Festival (see news), eagerly-awaited world premieres, including 2 Days in New York, co-written and directed by Julie Delpy, have been added to the line-up. This sequel to 2 Days in Paris [trailer, film focus] continues the adventures of Marion (Delpy), who has broken up with Jack and settled in New York with her new partner played by US actor Chris Rock. The film is co-produced by France (Polaris Films, Alvy Productions, Rézo Films), Belgium (Saga Film) and Germany (Senator Film Produktion) and has already been pre-sold worldwide by Rézo Films International.
Shadow Dancer is a British thriller by James Marsh (Red Riding) about a female terrorist, widow and mother, who is arrested after an attempted bombing and has to make some difficult choices in order to protect her child. The cast includes Andrea Riseborough, Aidan Gillen, Domhnall Gleeson, Gillian Anderson and Clive Owen. The film will be distributed in the UK by Paramount and has already been sold to most territories.
Red Lights, written and directed by Rodrigo Cortés — who returns to Sundance after creating a stir with Buried [trailer, film focus] in 2010 — is a US/Spanish co-production, starring Cilian Murphy, Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver. The latter plays a psychiatrist who is called on to investigate the paranormal activity of a famous medium. The film is distributed in Spain by Warner Bros. It has already been bought for a large part of Europe and will be distributed in France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and the UK, as well as further afield, in Canada, India and the Middle East.
Finally, British director Stephen Frears will present his US film Lay The Favorite produced from a screenplay by D.V. DeVicentis about a group of people who find a way of turning Las Vegas sports betting to their advantage. Bruce Willis, Rebecca Hall, Vince Vaughn and Catherine Zeta-Jones star in this film on Wild Bunch’s slate. The company will also handle international sales.
