Simon and the Oaks leads race for Sweden's Guldbaggar

With 13 nominations, Swedish director Lisa Ohlin's new feature, Simon and The Oaks [pic], leads the race for the Swedish Guldbaggar - the country's national film prizes - which will be awarded during a televised ceremony in Stockholm's Cirkus on January 23.

Currently in Swedish cinemas, Ohlin's adaption of Swedish author Marianne Frederiksson's best-sellng novel will compete for, among others, Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress (Helen Sjöholm) and Best Cinematography (Dan Lausten). A Swedish-Danish co-production by Christer Nilson (Götafilm AB) and Per Holst (Asta Film ApS), the drama of two families also stars Bill Skarsgård, Stefan Gödicke, Jonathan Wächter, Jan Josef Liefers and Karl Martin Eriksson.

Both in the Best Film and Best Director categories, the film is up against Ruben Östlund's Play [+see also:

, from Helene Lindholm. The secret ballot of the 43-member jury ranked Play in second place with seven nominations, and Ella Lemhagen's The Crown Jewels in third place with five. Designed by Karl Axel Pehrson, the Guldbagge beetle has been awarded since 1964.

, Iranian director Asghar Farhadi's A Separation and US director Debra Granik's Winter's Bone. At the awards ceremony there will also be Guldbaggar for Best Short, Best Documentary, an Honorary Prize and a Gullspira for extraordinary contributions to children's films.
