Caine and Poésy star in Nettelbeck’s Mr. Morgan’s Last Love

by Bénédicte Prot

Caine and Poésy star in Nettelbeck’s Mr. Morgan’s Last Love11/01/2012 - The forthcoming feature by Hamburg-born director Sandra Nettelbeck, Mr. Morgan’s Last Love, is in post-production, and once again it is a wide-ranging project – her previous films, Mostly Martha, Sergeant Pepper and Helen [trailer], were put together as mainly European co-productions with enticing subject matter.

The screenplay, adapted by Nettelbeck from Françoise Dorner’s novel La Douceur Assassine (“Murderous Sweetness”, published in 2006 by Albin Michel), centres on cult actor Michael Caine in the role of a widowed and retired American philosophy professor who has an unexpected and earthshaking love affair with a young woman several decades his junior, Pauline, played by rising star Clémence Poésy. The veteran British thesp and young French star appear alongside US actress Gillian Anderson.

The project received backing from Germany’s FFA and regional funds NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia) and MBB (Berlin-Brandenburg) and got tax credits in France and Belgium.

German distributor Senator Film Verleih plans to launch Mr. Morgan’s Last Love on domestic screens between the end of the new year and the beginning of next year.
