11/01/2012 - The forthcoming feature by Hamburg-born director Sandra Nettelbeck, Mr. Morgan’s Last Love, is in post-production, and once again it is a wide-ranging project – her previous films, Mostly Martha, Sergeant Pepper and Helen [trailer], were put together as mainly European co-productions with enticing subject matter.
The screenplay, adapted by Nettelbeck from Françoise Dorner’s novel La Douceur Assassine (“Murderous Sweetness”, published in 2006 by Albin Michel), centres on cult actor Michael Caine in the role of a widowed and retired American philosophy professor who has an unexpected and earthshaking love affair with a young woman several decades his junior, Pauline, played by rising star Clémence Poésy. The veteran British thesp and young French star appear alongside US actress Gillian Anderson.
The romantic comedy’s 38-day shoot wrapped just before Christmas and took place in Paris, Brittany, Brussels and MMC Studios in Cologne. Mr. Morgan’s Last Love is produced by Bavaria Pictures, Kaminski.Stiehm.Film and Senator Film Produktion (Germany), in co-production with Scope Pictures (Belgium), Elzévir Films (France) and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (US). The project received backing from Germany’s FFA and regional funds NRW (North Rhine-Westphalia) and MBB (Berlin-Brandenburg) and got tax credits in France and Belgium.
German distributor Senator Film Verleih plans to launch Mr. Morgan’s Last Love on domestic screens between the end of the new year and the beginning of next year.
